Many properties operate with automatic timers on sprinkler systems. This is convenient until people forget to turn off those systems during rainy weather that can last for extended periods of time. In cooler weather, sprinkler use should also be scaled back. However, sprinkler systems are often left to over water lawns and plants because systems may still run on summer or regular schedules.
Overwatering creates a shallow root system in grasses and plants, which can lead to vulnerability to hot or dry weather. Not only is overwatering detrimental to plants, but it is also especially wasteful during our current severe drought. So do your part as many other residents and business owners have already installed the new “Smart” controllers.
